Official COVID-19 Statement

Dear volunteers, partners, and friends,

COVID 19 has radically changed our lives and Literacy Connects is, and will continue to adapt for the sake of our students. But, we will not compromise our mission and values. Who we are as an organization — all of the things that Literacy Connects values and that people know, love and support– are not going to change. In order to keep all of us as safe as possible during this unprecedented pandemic Literacy Connects has transitioned all of our programs to virtual on-line learning. However, the digital inequality in our community means that we are serving less students. To help to ameliorate this in a small way, Literacy Connects is creating a small Chromebook lending library for our adult students. Our school age programs have been working with the school districts, as well as individual schools, in order to provide our unique reading and writing programs in a form that will allow access to children but also fits within the new pandemic parameters of the schools.

Literacy Connects offices and library are still closed but all staff can be reached through email. While we will keep reassessing the pandemic based on the CDC recommendations, given what we know now and without a drastic change for the better, the offices and library will remain closed through the end of 2020. When we do open again it will be in phases. The health of our staff, students, and volunteers are our top priority. (NOTE: drop off and pick-up arrangements can be made by calling 882-8006. Please be aware that a temporary security fence has been erected and blocks access to our parking lot.)

Our information sessions have transferred to Zoom! Please attend or encourage a friend to attend and learn more about Literacy Connects. To register and view new dates and times click here.

Thank you all for pulling together and helping our community get through this time of great concern and unknown. We look forward to coming out on the other side stronger than ever and continuing to offer a world of opportunities to people of all ages through literacy and creative expression. With best regards,

Betty Stauffer,

Executive Director
