 If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you’re in the right place! Literacy Connects thrives thanks to our dedicated volunteers, and we’re always looking for people who share our values and passion for student-centered learning to join our community. Here you’ll find information about volunteer opportunities and next steps to take to join our team.

Learn about opportunities with our three volunteer-driven programs

Reading Seed pairs kindergarten through second-grade students who are reading below grade level with trained one-to-one reading coaches to develop healthy relationships with books and reading.

Time Commitment
  • Minimum one school year commitment
  • Meet with three students for 30 minute sessions each (1.5 hours total) once per week
  • Coaching happens Monday-Friday during school house (typically 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

Reading Seed Volunteer Information Page

Adult Basic Literacy offers individualized support to adults in reading, writing, problem solving skills, and GED prep in both English and Spanish through one-to-one tutoring and small group classes.

Time Commitment
  • Minimum one year commitment
  • Twice per week for approximately 2 hours tutoring plus prep and travel time

Adult Basic Literacy Volunteer Information Page

English Language Acquisition for Adults provides classes using an interactive team approach for immigrants and refugees who want to speak, write, and read in English so they can achieve their goals and fully participate in our community.

Time Commitment
  • Minimum one year commitment
  • Classes offered year-round in 4 sessions
  • Classes meet twice per week for 1-1.5 hours

We are currently looking for front desk and library volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Hello@literacyconnects.org

Front desk volunteers are friendly, outgoing, and love working with all types of people. They provide support for visitors, volunteers, students, and staff both in person and on the phone.

Time Commitment
  • Minimum six month commitment
  • One four-hour shift per week
  • Front desk shifts are Monday-Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM
Location

In person at Literacy Connects

If you love talking to people and helping them find the perfect books, then you would be a great library volunteer! These positions help volunteers and staff utilize our resources, including the free book area, library, and other program materials.

Time Commitment
  • Minimum one year commitment
  • Minimum one four-hour shift per week
  • Library shifts are Monday-Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM

Ready to get involved? Sign up for an Info Session! These hour-long sessions (currently offered online via Zoom) focus on specific volunteer experiences. If you are not sure which program is best for you, we encourage you to sign up for both program-specific sessions. If you’re interested in non-programmatic volunteer opportunities, sign up for the general session.
