The second cohort of our Women RISE interns have all completed their job-readiness training and are ready to take on the world! Two of the Women RISE interns secured their dream jobs with help from the program.

In their own words…

“I highly recommend this program to all those women who want to incorporate into the professional environment. In my particular case I used all the tools given in the program to successfully find a job in my field.”
Zulema, Women RISE participant.

“I don’t know how to express all my feelings, because thanks to this program, I got a job and I’ve started to live my dreams.”
Daniela, Women RISE participant

More opportunities…

According to Jennifer Stanowski, Director of the English Language Acquisition for Adults Program, who oversees Women RISE, many immigrant and refugee women are skilled and want to work, but aren’t sure where to start. “The learning that takes place in Women Rise is so much more than acquiring information and skills — the women develop a support system during the semester as they volunteer in our programs, network and learn job-search skills.  So many new opportunities open to them when they become part of the Literacy Connects community.
Thanks to a generous three year grant from the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona, our Women RISE program is thriving! The third cohort of Women RISE interns will begin their journey in early 2018.

  1. Good afternoon,

I am looking for a program that will help a 50 year old female who immigrated in 2012 who speaks no English. She is a Spanish speaker from Mexico who is not able to read or write in either language, but is very interested and vested in helping her son succeed with his education, and is willing to take on the challenge to be a better advocate for her son.

Is there a very basic beginning program that could possibly put us on a path to help her achieve this? Any assistance and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
