Here at Literacy Connects we LOVE Love of Reading Month and are working to share our passion for literacy and education throughout the community. Take a look at what our programs are doing to celebrate reading this February!!
Free Book Distribution
To celebrate Love of Reading Month, Reading Seed has selected 8 lucky elementary schools in Pima Country to each receive over 500 books! Those books will go directly into the hands, homes, and – hopefully – hearts of their students. That’s almost 5,000 books in just 28 days! The following districts/schools were selected:
Amphitheater School District
Donaldson 500 books delivered 2/8
Flowing Wells School District
Walter Douglas 700 books delivered 2/1
Marana School District
Coyote Trail 500 books delivered 2/18
Desert Winds 500 books delivered 2/18
Sahuarita School District
Copper View 500 books delivered 2/15
TUSD
Grijalva 700 books delivered 2/11
Lynn-Urquides 700 books delivered 2/11
Tolson 500 books delivered 2/4
In addition, this month’s Books for Teachers Award goes to Holly Busse at Johnson Primary in TUSD. Holly taught fourth and fifth grade for six years before becoming a first grade teacher two years ago. She has a lot of chapter books that aren’t 1st grade-friendly, so 250 “just right” books for her classroom library will make a world of difference for her students!!
