#WeAreAmphi is a neighborhood initiative built on celebrating assets and strengths that create a sense of inclusivity and pride in our Amphi Neighborhood. The group is made up of organizations within the Amphi neighborhood who provide different services and programs, but who are all committed to serving our neighbors and
contributing to positive outcomes.
The initiative was started in 2019 and continues to evolve with new partners and programs.
Mission:
In partnership with neighbors, organizations, businesses and stakeholders, the coalition will preserve, protect and enhance the quality of life for Amphi residents.
Goals:
- Connect: Offer a platform to build relationships
- Promote: Integrate neighborhood strengths in all Coalition activities
- Ask: Identify gaps in basic goods, services and social connections
- Provide: Bring resources to neighbors based on gaps
- Partner: Leverage community support
- Create: Activate space and expand opportunities to live, work, play, learn, share and celebrate
- Share: Serve as a conduit for communication

Coalition Members
Literacy Connects
Literacy Connects is the premier literacy hub in Southern Arizona, providing transformational learning through joyous student-centered relationships and a strength-based approach. We serve learners across five programs: English Language Acquisition for Adults, Adult Basic Literacy, Reading Seed, Stories that Soar!, and Reach out and Read Southern Arizona. Our commitment to access and equity drives us to connect individuals across the community to work together for long-term social impact. We firmly believe that everyone deserves access to literacy and learning, and our classes are open to all, regardless of background or immigration status.
We fulfill our mission of “Connecting people of all ages to a world of opportunities through literacy and creative expression” by guiding our work with core values- Equity and Social Justice, Creativity and Imagination, Collaborative Relationships, Joy, and Transformational Learning.
Habitat for Humanity Tucson
Habitat Tucson builds homes in partnership with low-income families and the community. The homes are sold with affordable mortgages. Habitat helps low-income homeowners, veterans, seniors and families restore and maintain their homes. Habitat will partner with homeowners to alleviate critical health and safety issues and complete needed home improvement projects. Habitat works hand-in-hand with residents and other nonprofit partners to help improve neighborhoods in Tucson and enhance the quality of life for all. We believe strong and stable homes help build strong and stable communities. Our mission is creating a more compassionate and just world, Habitat for Humanity Tucson brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
International Rescue Committee
The mission of the IRC is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future.
The IRC’s New Roots program developed services and infrastructure aimed at engaging low-income families in urban agriculture, nutrition education, and healthy food access navigation. The IRC in Tucson is a proud partner with Literacy Connects. Literacy Gardens enable refugees and their neighbors to prepare, share, buy, and sell fresh local foods in their communities. New Roots is uniquely designed and equipped to assist refugees to achieve all five IRC core outcomes that are critical to their integration into their new homes.

The University of Arizona Garden Kitchen
The Garden Kitchen offers seed-to-table gardening and cooking education, nutrition education, and physical activity opportunities. We work with community members as well as organizations and governments to deliver this programming throughout Pima County.
As a seed-to-table program, our aim is to increase families’ food security, the availability of healthy foods, and opportunities for physical activity. We want families to learn about every step of bringing a healthy meal to the kitchen table — from growing and purchasing foods on a budget, to accessing their local farmers market, how to store foods to preserve their freshness, and preparing quick and easy meals, that the whole family can be involved in making.
Amphitheater Public Schools
Amphitheater Public Schools has a long history of excellence, going back to 1893 when the first school opened with 11 students. Today we have 21 campuses and more than 13,000 students. Our teachers are skilled and highly qualified. They participate in ongoing professional development, and many have national certification. They have excellent and well-proven strategies to enhance learning.
Amphitheater Public Schools offer a demanding and rigorous curriculum aligned with current standards. Our educators focus on skills students need in today’s workplace, including creativity and innovation, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. We prepare students to meet the challenges of a changing world.

Non-Violence Legacy Project
We are committed to using the steps and principles of nonviolence to help manifest the beloved community. We do this by engaging, educating, and certifying community members through trainings and working collaboratively with various communities.
Five hours before Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated at the balcony of his motel room in Memphis Tennessee, he told Dr. Bernard Lafayette that “the next movement we’re going to have is to institutionalize and internationalize nonviolence.” Even though he was never able to continue that conversation with Dr. King, Dr. Lafayette was determined to not let Dr. King’s vision die with him. In the late 1980’s, he joined forces with David Jensen to create the Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation training program. This is the program that we use for our Nonviolence Legacy Program and Dr. Lafayette is our mentor.
