Two completely different shows — 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. May 18 at the Temple of Music and Art!
This year, thousands of elementary school students from all over Southern Arizona experienced the power of literacy and creative expression through Stories That Soar! performances.
Each experience starts with a visit from the hungry Magic Box, which encourages K-5/6 students to “feed me stories!” After all the stories are submitted and read, an ensemble of professional actors turns selected works into a magical live performance at the school. Using comedy, drama, acrobatics, dance, music and more, every show features storytelling styles as varied as the children’s compositions themselves.
This season, eager young authors from 16 partnering schools wrote more than 8,000 original stories for the Magic Box. The stories explored fantasy, friendship and family dynamics, as well as science, math and politics.
On May 18, two completely different Best of Stories That Soar! shows at the Temple of Music and Art will showcase audience favorites from the 2013-14 season. With shows at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., the family-friendly celebration will also include a mid-show reception from 5 – 6 pm with free face-painting, fortune-telling, dance competitions and refreshments, as well as red carpet treatment for young authors.
Tickets — $10 for adults and $5 for children up to age 12 – are available at the door or at the Literacy Connects office, 2850 E. Speedway Blvd.
