Originally from Vietnam, Khoa Pham and his parents, Phuong Dang and Ha Pham, arrived in Tucson just four months ago. Khoa’s grandmother, who has been here for 25 years, knew about Literacy Connects’ English classes at Eckstrom-Columbus Library and suggested the family attend. They took her advice immediately and have been taking classes since then.
Khoa said he noticed improvement from the very first day, both in “listening and speaking better.” He is making plans to attend Pima Community College this August and hopes to work in the field of aviation mechanics. He says his teacher’s lessons are “so helpful to me, and the classmates are so nice.”
It’s great to know Literacy Connects’ classes at local libraries have such a loyal following, providing generations of this family with opportunities to improve their English. When asked for advice for future students, Phuong said, “Don’t miss class!”
Our schedule of English classes is online! Summer session starts June 2.
