My summer AmeriCorps position has been an amazing opportunity.  I applied to get experience and learn what happens behind the scenes at Literacy Connects.  One of my roles is to assist in the Intensive Pronunciation Class with students from all over the world.  Helping students improve their English can be considered a small thing, but I can see that it is bringing someone closer to a job, or to helping their child with homework – and that is the most valuable feeling in the world. After college, I hope to go to medical school to become a pediatrician. My AmeriCorps experience will help me be a better doctor because I understand now how difficult it would be if you couldn’t understand what your doctor is saying.  And of course, as a pediatrician, I would love to have Reach Out and Read in my practice so babies can begin their literacy journey from day one. Working as an AmeriCorps intern this summer has been absolutely thrilling.  Thank you Literacy Connects!
