Tips for Reading with Children

  • It’s never too early to start!
  • Read favorite stories over and over.
  • Let your child turn the pages.
  • Let your child interrupt.
  • Interruptions show your child is engaged.
  • Snuggle with your child and a book.
  • Make reading part of your daily routine.
  • Read out loud, every day.
  • A few minutes is okay.
  • Make the story come alive with fun and excitement in your voice.
  • Ask your child questions about the story, even if they can’t yet answer.
  • Talk about the pictures.
  • Read anywhere, anytime.
