Reading Coaches

Reading Coaches work one-on-one with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students who are reading below grade level. Students are identified by their teachers and other staff members as struggling with reading, and are pulled out of class for half an hour each week to work with a Reading Coach. Coaches work with students to identify their interests, their strengths, and their weaknesses to create a unique experience that aims to make reading fun for children. Reading Coaches are able to choose the day, time, and school that are most convenient to them. All new volunteers must attend a three-hour training and orientation session; they are also required to be fingerprinted and have a background check performed. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
