The lights are never brighter than right before the big game. The moments are never more important than right before they happen. Literacy Connects is proud to present a man who represents the championship spirit both on and off the field, Malcolm Mitchell. Malcolm is a New England Patriot, a Super Bowl Champion and a Literacy Advocate. Please join us at The Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa Friday, April 12, 2024, for a gourmet meal, entertainment and the transformative stories of our students.

About our keynote speaker: Malcolm Mitchell is a native of Valdosta, Georgia. As a high school senior, he was an Under Armour All American and went on to finish in the top 10 all-time receivers during his playing career at the University of Georgia (UGA). After graduating from UGA with a degree in Communication Studies in 2015, Malcolm was drafted by the New England Patriots, becoming a Super Bowl Champion in 2017. Malcolm speaks on topics including the power of literacy, overcoming adversity and teamwork. In 2016, Malcolm finished his first book, “The Magician’s Hat.” Malcolm is a two time Children’s Author of the Year award winner from the Georgia Writers Association.

Our History: The Opening Chapter

On July 1, 2011 five organizations - Literacy Volunteers of Tucson, Reading Seed, Stories that Soar!, Reach out and Read Southern Arizona, and Literacy for Life Coalition - officially merged to become Literacy Connects. In the ten years since then we’ve grown our programs, staff, and learners, bought and renovated our home on Yavapai Road, developed new ways to better serve our community, and navigated the challenges of going virtual.

Thank you for being a partner with us!
